Ludmil Lazarov’s paintings are self-explanatory because of Things and Creatures that are just there and do not need to explain why they are there. Those paintings of his are independent bodies, each with its own physical law that refers us to nothing else but itself. They seize the running time and fix it on the canvas, they catch the invisible and make it tangible and understandable. Whether they are flooded by blue or purple or abound in rose ash, the white is always present, for it is a major element of the composition. The white paste is what supports the painting. The rustic texture of this particular mode of painting takes us back to olden times, even back to antiquity.
